Barnick\, Chair of the Heritage Center\nFlorence Rowe Barnick is Chair of the Central Rappahannock Heritage Center Board\, a position she’s held since 2021 and a Board member since 2019. In addition to her leadership\, she has assisted researchers at the Center since it reopened in 2023 after COVID-19. A native of Fredericksburg\, she graduated from James Monroe High School and Sweet Briar College\, where she majored in American Studies. She is a retired executive of The Free Lance-Star and the Star Radio Group. The road\, a mere cart path\, ran generally from the Germanna plank road on the North to the Orange Plank Road on the South. There\, it terminated in proximity to what was known as the Parker Store. Members of the CWSG documented this route some years ago and produced a report on the cart path. Vestiges of the cart path remain today\, identified by the intrepid trekker.\n\nWhy the Parker designation? What was the Parker function in its time? What role did the story play during the pre-Civil War years and then during Mine Run and Wilderness Battles? So many questions\, so little time. This presentation will endeavor to answer these and many other questions regarding the Parker VA phenomenon.\n\n\n\n\nThe link to register for the meeting is below.

However\, the process is sometimes reversed\, and one must think differently. Dr. Char Bah has recently engaged in the latter research journey. Under contract\, she has spent two years searching for the enslaved persons owned by George Mason\, IV. Mason was a resident of Gunston Hall in the 1700s and is said to have owned several enslaved persons. \nJoin FRGS on April 6th for Dr. Bah’s description of her journey through the Gunston Hall records in a hunt for the descendants of those enslaved persons.
