Leaders Needed for FRGS Special Interest Groups
Would you like to try your hand at leading an FRGS SIG? Special Interest Groups within genealogical societies exist so members can focus on topics specifically relevant to their areas of interest. SIGs can pertain to nationality (German, Irish, British), geographic location (Virginia), and genealogical study focus (technology, methodology, family history writing).
SIGs typically meet monthly but can meet quarterly if the group decides to. Meetings are usually relatively informal, with question-and-answer, discussion, or meetings focused on a particular topic. Occasionally, outside speakers are brought in. The SIG leader organizes and publicizes the meeting, recommends the format or topic, and reports back to the general membership on SIG activities.
If you have a Special Interest that you’re passionate about and would like to explore the possibility of creating and leading (or perhaps co-leading) one, contact us or talk to one of the Executive Council members at the next society meeting.
