Topic: Gunston Hall: Finding Descendants of the Enslaved

Genealogy usually involves searching for one’s ancestors, generation by generation, back through the ages. However, the process is sometimes reversed, and one must think differently. Dr. Char Bah has recently engaged in the latter research journey. Under contract, she has spent two years searching for the enslaved persons owned by George Mason, IV. Mason was a resident of Gunston Hall in the 1700s and is said to have owned several enslaved persons.

Join FRGS on April 6th for Dr. Bah’s description of her journey through the Gunston Hall records in a hunt for the descendants of those enslaved persons. The talk will take place at 2:00 p.m. in Room #1 of the Fredericksburg Main Library, with a Zoom option.

Speaker: Dr. Char Bah
