Turn Family Stories into Family Facts!
An Introduction to Family Research
Hosted by Trish Little Taylor & the Lt. Col. John Dowd LAOH Division
Why This Workshop Matters
Thanksgiving brings families together — and with that comes football, politics, and
unforgettable stories about grandparents, aunts, uncles, and those legendary cousins. But
which stories are true? Which ones have grown a little…taller over the years?
This workshop will show you how to separate fact from fiction and begin building a reliable
family history.
What You will Learn
Trish Little Taylor, a genealogical librarian and Irish/American research
specialist, will introduce:
• Foundational research techniques
• How to evaluate family stories
• Where to find reliable records
• A curated list of websites, tools, and resources
• How to continue your research independently
What to Bring
Gather basic information for your parents and grandparents:
• Birth, marriage, and death details
• Places they lived
• Names of siblings — these often break down brick walls
